In the upcoming GST Council meeting on October 20, the council may eliminate the 12% GST slab. This slab includes several essential items that significantly impact the budgets of ordinary citizens. The 12% GST slab currently covers packaged food items, clothing, footwear priced below ₹1,000, commercial properties, mobile phones, ghee, butter, fruit juices, umbrellas, and packaged coconut water, among other items. The potential removal of this slab could lead to lower prices for these everyday essentials, providing relief to consumers and potentially boosting spending in other areas of the economy.
