On the special occasion of Diwali, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions as well as several offices declare holidays across the country. While schools across UP, Bihar, and Delhi will have a holiday of four to five days, educational institutions in Kerala will get a one-day holiday only. There is no special holiday on Diwali in Himachal Pradesh. Check the state-wise list here:

Uttarakhand

Schools will remain closed from November 1 to 3 in Uttarakhand. However, due to a change in the date of Diwali, the holiday can also be changed. According to the holiday calendar till now, no special holiday has been given on Diwali in Uttarakhand. Some schools have declared a holiday on Friday, November 1. Meanwhile, November 2nd and 3rd are Saturday-Sunday.

Jammu and Kashmir

There is no holiday on Diwali in Jammu and Kashmir. The residents here give priority to their local traditions and festivals.  There is no government holiday on Diwali in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh

In most North East states including Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam, other festivals are more important than Diwali. In the high mountain areas of Meghalaya, local tribal cultures have their own characteristics. Therefore, there is no provision for a holiday on Diwali. Most of the schools in these states remain closed on their traditional festivals.
