Stretching 21.26 km, the Pink Line will connect Kalena Agrahara and Nagavara with 18 stations—12 underground and six elevated.

The line will be served by 16 driverless trains (96 coaches) from BEML Limited, with the first prototype expected by June 2025.

Bengaluru’s much-anticipated Pink Line, poised to be the city’s longest underground metro line, is now scheduled for a full opening by December 2026, a year later than originally planned.

According to Deccan Herald, the 21.26-km line will stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Nagavara, featuring 12 underground and 6 elevated stations.

The Pink Line is set to open in two phases: the elevated 7.5-km stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere will be ready by December 2025, while the 13.76-km underground portion from Dairy Circle to Nagavara is expected to start operations by December 2026, according to a senior Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official.

In a major milestone, the BMRCL completed tunneling work for the Pink Line, with the ninth and final Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), Bhadra, surfacing near the Nagavara station on Wednesday. The official explained that track-laying will be finished by October 2025, with additional work on traction and signaling systems taking another 6 to 8 months, followed by four months of trial runs.

Texmaco Rail and Engineering Limited has been awarded a Rs 521.76-crore contract to lay ballastless tracks for Phase 2 of Namma Metro, including the Pink Line.

Track-laying is already underway, with progress made between Rashtriya Military School and Cantonment stations, though some work remains near Vellara Junction. Further sections, including Dairy Circle to Langford Town, are in progress, while Pottery Town to Nagavara is yet to begin.

Alstom is on board to design, manufacture, and install a high-tech Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling system for the Pink and Blue lines. They’ll also install platform screen doors at the underground stations and platform screen gates at the elevated stations.

With construction at around 90 percent complete for Pink Line stations, the line will eventually be served by 16 driverless trains from BEML Limited. The first prototype is expected by June 2025, after which BEML will deliver two to three trains each month once approvals are granted.

On Wednesday, the Nagavara station celebrated as TBM Bhadra completed its 937-meter-long tunnel, the final step in a project that started in August 2020. The tunneling spanned 20.99 km, with nine TBMs achieving 26 breakthroughs over the course of construction. BMRCL officials, relieved by this achievement, described it as “the end of sleepless nights.”
