The new hi-tech bus stand for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), located in the state’s Kolar district, has not been able to attract passengers owing to its out-of-the-way location. Built at a cost of Rs 10 crore on six acres of land, the bus stand is situated one kilometre away from the Srinivaspur city centre.
This bus station boasts modern technology with 10 platforms and a spacious premise. The bus stand has a separate waiting room for women, a ticket booking counter, shops, toilets, and a borewell for water. There is no other station like this in any taluk of Kolar district.
However, even seven years after its inauguration, people are not using this bus stop since it is located one kilometre away from Srinivaspur. The new bus stand sees buses coming and going infrequently. It is being used only as a link road by private vehicles on the Kolar-Chintamani route.
Due to a lack of travellers, the bus stop has become a deserted area and a place for leisure in the morning and evening. Locals have demanded that the facilities of this hi-tech bus stand should be made available for public use. The KSRTC Divisional Controller responded to this by saying, “Buses are plying to the new bus station, but no passengers are boarding.”
On the other hand, the old bus stand in the centre of Srinivasapur town is very busy. All the government offices are located near the old bus stand, which has in turn led to increased traffic in that area.
