Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is set to launch a new double-decker metro line as part of the Namma Metro Phase 3 expansion.
This new line follows the completion of a double-decker flyover between Ragigudda and Silk Board, with work on the metro line expected to begin soon, as per One India. The project will roll out in phases, improving transport across the city.
BMRCL has started the tender process for designing the infrastructure for Phase 3, which will feature double-decker flyovers on three major corridors. This expansion is aimed at reducing traffic and improving connectivity in Bengaluru.
Key routes will include a stretch from JP Nagar 4th Stage to Kempapura, and another from Hosahalli to Kadabagere. Double-decker elevated paths, metro stations, ramps, and road infrastructure will also be built, linking Summanahalli Cross to Kadabagere and JP Nagar Station to Nagarabhavi BDA Complex.
The tender process for construction is divided into three phases, and the expansion will also include a depot, a skywalk, and a multi-modal transport hub near Peenya and Summanahalli, improving connections between various transport options.
In August, the central government approved Phase 3, funding the central metro line while the state government will cover the costs of the double-decker flyovers.
BMRCL has already begun acquiring land for the project, which covers 44.65 kilometres and will involve the acquisition of around 299 properties along the proposed routes. This marks a significant step towards meeting Bengaluru’s growing transportation needs.
