The Railway Board has unveiled plans to add 1,000 general coaches to 370 trains by the end of November, allowing an extra 100,000 passengers to travel daily.
According to Financial Express, in a statement on Tuesday, the Board confirmed that 583 general coaches have already been added to various trains.
The addition of the remaining coaches is underway across all rail zones and divisions and is expected to be completed by the end of the month, according to a senior official.
Looking ahead, the Board is also preparing for the Holi festival rush in 2025, with plans to introduce 10,000 non-AC coaches over the next two years, boosting daily capacity by more than 800,000 passengers.
“Manufacturing work at the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala is progressing rapidly to meet the deadlines,” the official said.
All 10,000 coaches will be of the LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) type, featuring advanced safety measures and better amenities for passengers.
