Air India has announced big changes to its domestic route network after merging with Vistara earlier this month.
Starting 1 December 2024, the airline will use its premium narrow-body planes on five key metro routes, offering top-class cabin options: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.
Key Routes with Upgraded Aircraft
Air India will now operate Vistara’s advanced A320-series planes on these metro routes:
- Delhi to Mumbai
- Delhi to Bengaluru
- Delhi to Hyderabad
- Mumbai to Bengaluru
- Mumbai to Hyderabad
These flights, operated with former Vistara A320-series aircraft, will carry four-digit flight numbers starting with “2″, such as AI2999 for Delhi-Mumbai.
In addition to the upgraded aircraft, Air India is optimising its schedules, spreading flight departures throughout the day while maintaining flight frequency.
- 56 daily flights on Delhi–Mumbai
- 36 daily flights on Delhi–Bengaluru
- 24 daily flights on Delhi–Hyderabad
- 22 daily flights on Mumbai–Bengaluru
- 18 daily flights on Mumbai–Hyderabad
Campbell Wilson, Air India’s CEO, commented: “We will progressively expand the coverage to more routes as Air India inducts new aircraft and completes the retrofit of our legacy narrowbody fleet during 2025.”
The aircraft on these routes will feature:
- Business Class: 8 seats with 41-inch pitch, 7-inch recline, and footrests.
- Premium Economy: 24 seats with 33-inch pitch and 4-inch recline.
- Economy Class: 132 seats with 29-inch pitch and 3-inch recline.
Other perks include free hot meals, lounge access for premium passengers at major airports, and seamless connections to global destinations.
The revamped routes will appear on Air India’s website, app, and through authorised travel agents.
For those looking for even more luxury, Air India will still operate wide-body flights between Delhi and Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, using Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 planes. These flights will have three-digit flight numbers.
