The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said over 75 tunnel projects are under construction by (NHAI), involving a total investment of Rs Rs 49,000 crore.

In a move to offer a seamless travel experience to the public, the Indian government is all set to invest a big chunk of money to boost the road infrastructure across the country.
As per the details shared by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, he said over 75 tunnel projects are under construction by (NHAI), involving a total investment of Rs Rs 49,000 crore.
Here’s What Gadkari Said
He said that over 75 National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) tunnel projects are underway as of now, and soon these projects will greatly benefit the countrymen.
The minister shared the above-mentioned details while speaking at the World Tunnel Day 2024 Conference on Safe & Sustainable Tunneling, reported by Financial Express.
At the event he also pointed out the country’s tunnel sector potential. He said, “Our Prime Minister has a dream to make India the world’s third-largest economy. For this target, we need to have an international standard of infrastructure in the country. Our government has given the highest priority for the development of good infrastructure in the country,” FE reported.
Completed Projects
While addressing the public, he also revealed that NHAI has completed more than 34 tunnel projects so far, spanning over 49 km at an overall cost of Rs 20,000 crore. Apart from this, over 75 tunnel projects with an investment of Rs 49,000 crore, covering a total distance of 146 km, are under construction, Gadkari added.
Upcoming Tunnel Projects
He further stated that over 78 tunnel projects have been pipelined by NHAI. These projects will cover a total distance of 285 km, and will take a total investment of Rs 1.10 lakh crore.
