The UGC has instructed higher education institutions to inform researchers about the new G20 Talent Visa.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has introduced the ‘G20 Talent Visa’ for scientists, researchers, faculty members, and scholars from G20 countries to visit India for projects, training, and research. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked colleges and universities to share this information with stakeholders to promote global academic collaboration.
The G20 Talent Visa will allow international scholars and researchers to participate in projects, training programs, and post-doctoral fellowships, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and innovations.
“It is informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) has announced the approval to introduce a new category ‘G20 Talent Visa’ under the sub-category (S-5 visa) of Student Visa for Scientists, Researchers, Faculty members, Scholar Academicians of the G20 group countries to enter India for the purpose of projects, training programs, post-doctoral research, fellowships etc,” UGC said in a notice.
The notice further urged academic institutions to spread the word about this opportunity.
“All Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are requested to take note of this and circulate the information on the G20 Talent Visa among stakeholders/ faculty members/ researchers/scholars,” the UGC added.
During the second session of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the creation of a “G20 Talent Visa” as a special category, similar to the various visa types issued by other countries.
“This type of visa could be highly beneficial for our top science and technology talent to explore global opportunities. Their talent and efforts can contribute significantly to our economies,” PM Modi remarked.
