A Lamborghini caught fire while driving on Mumbai’s Coastal Road on Wednesday night, prompting concerns about the safety of such expensive luxury cars.
Business tycoon Gautam Singhania, chairman and managing director of Raymond, shared a video of the fiery scene on social media.
He raised questions about the safety standards of high-priced luxury cars, stating that such incidents tarnish the expectations of quality and reliability.

According to HT Auto, the car in the video has been identified as Lamborghini Revuelto, a model known for its advanced safety features. Having said that, the vehicle comes equipped with six airbags, seat belt warnings, child locks, speed-sensing door locks, and lane departure warnings, among others.
The Lamborghini Revuelto, which was launched in India nearly a year ago, starts at Rs 8.89 crore (ex-showroom). This flagship model is powered by a V12 hybrid engine. It features a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 producing 825 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 725 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. The hybrid system, which combines three electric motors, delivers a total output of 1,001 bhp. The powertrain is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Following the incident, fire services arrived at the scene and took around 45 minutes to control the blaze. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred around 10:20 PM.
Singhania’s post on the incident highlighted concerns about the reliability of Lamborghini vehicles, stressing that for such a high price, customers expect the highest safety and quality standards. He wrote, “A Lamborghini engulfed in flames on Coastal Road, Mumbai. Incidents like this raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety standards of Lamborghini. For the price and reputation, one expects uncompromising quality—not potential hazards.”
