Car and bike owners in Maharashtra will now have to pay more if they want to have High-Security Number Plates (HSRP) for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.
Following the announcement by the Maharashtra Transport Department, the payment link on its website became active on Wednesday. The cost includes the price of the snap lock for the number plate and GST.
The cost of installing HSRP is Rs 531 for two-wheelers such as motorcycles, scooters, and tractors, Rs 590 for three-wheelers like auto-rickshaws, and Rs 879 for larger vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks, tankers, tempos, and trailers.
To install high-security number plates on old vehicles registered before April 2019, the state transport department has provided an appointment facility on its website.
What is HSRP?
The High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is a tamper-proof vehicle licence plate designed to be difficult to duplicate. HSRP plates include a unique identification number, hologram, and registration number. These number plates are made from durable materials, such as aluminium, and feature a hot-stamped alphanumeric code.
New Rates
The Maharashtra Transport Department has outlined the new HSRP rates for different types of vehicles on its website. GST at the rate of 18% will also be applicable. The cost for each HSRP plate measuring 200 mm x 100 mm and 285 mm x 45 mm for two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be Rs 219.90. For four or more-wheel vehicles, the price for plates measuring 500 mm x 120 mm and 340 mm x 200 mm will be Rs 342.41.
The cost of the snap lock and the third registration mark, excluding GST, will be Rs 10.18 and Rs 50, respectively. The GST charge for applying the HSRP will be Rs 81 for two-wheelers and tractors, Rs 90 for three-wheelers, and Rs 134.10 for four or more-wheel vehicles. HSRP will be installed on both the front and rear of old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, and a registration mark sticker will also be placed on the windscreen.
