Trump Presidency Day 1 Live Updates: US President Donald Trump returns to the White House and made several executive decisions on Day 1.

Trump reversed numerous actions taken by former President Joe Biden, initiated a crackdown on immigration, withdrew the US from the Paris climate accords, and worked to keep TikTok operational in the country for 75 days.

As promised, Trump pardoned about 1,500 people convicted or criminally charged for the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol after former President Joe Biden’s victory.

The US President signed an executive order beginning the process of withdrawing America from the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the second time in less than five years.

His key order on immigration reinstates policies from 2017, aiming to cut federal grants to “sanctuary” jurisdictions that limit cooperation with immigration authorities claiming that these jurisdictions violate laws. The order restores deportation criteria to pursue everyone in the country illegally, not just those with serious criminal records, those deemed national security or public safety threats, and those who recently crossed the border.

“I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places in which they came,” Trump said in his inauguration speech to thunderous applause.

The president also said that the tariff to be levied on Canada and Mexico could start as early as February.

On Monday, due to the frigid weather, the day’s events were altered. Trump’s swearing-in was forced indoors to the Capitol Rotunda. During his inaugural speech, Trump said the government faces “a crisis of trust.” He claimed to have “a mandate to completely and totally reverse a horrible betrayal,” promising to “give the people back their faith, their wealth, their democracy and indeed their freedom.”
