Barkha Bisht has been active in the entertainment industry for more than two decades. The actress has appeared on numerous television shows, films, and web shows. Recently, she has reprised the role of Kaali Maa in Tenali Rama 2. While this is not Barkha’s first experience with the mythology genre, the actress believes that each role brings a new challenge and experience.
In a recent interview with ETimes, Barkha Bisht reflected on reprising her role as Kaali Maa in the second season and stated, “It feels very good. I was part of season one, which was a cameo, and now being in season two feels like a homecoming. So when they called me, I was very glad to be a part of this. The makers have tried to retain as much of the original cast as possible, and I’m glad to be part of this again.”
However, Barkha noted that as opposed to other genres, doing a mythological show is “extremely difficult.” She noted it’s even more difficult than action shows due to the extravagant outfits and demanding language. Every part of acting is different in such shows; it’s not just about physical preparation, but also mental readiness.
She added, “We are a country of strong religious beliefs, and to depict a powerful Goddess like Kaali Maa is truly an honour. You know you’re catering to an audience that values and respects this kind of storytelling.”
But Barkha mentions that although tiresome, the affection and admiration one receives for portraying such parts makes it all worthwhile. As an actor, the ultimate result is really fulfilling because the audience deeply interacts with such characters. She concluded by saying, “I love what I do, and I feel grateful to bring Kaali Maa’s essence to life on screen.”
