Indian Railways Cuts Coaches on Nagpur-Secunderabad Vande Bharat, Here’s Why – News18

Last Updated:

From February 19, 2025, the Nagpur-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express will operate with only 8 coaches instead of 20.

This change aims to optimise resources, improve efficiency, and enhance service turnaround times.

Indian Railways has announced a reduction in the number of coaches on the 65th Vande Bharat Express, which launched on September 16, 2024.

This semi-high-speed train, operated by the Central Railway zone, will now run with fewer coaches, reducing its composition from 20 to 8. According to ET Now, the change, effective from February 19, 2025, aims to improve efficiency and make better use of resources.

This train connects Nagpur in Maharashtra to Secunderabad in Telangana, covering a distance of 578 km in just 7 hours and 15 minutes, making it the fastest on the route. It is the second 20-coach Vande Bharat Express in India.

Ticket Prices

Passengers can choose from two seating options:

  • AC Chair Car: Rs 1350
  • Executive Chair Car: Rs 2605

Train Schedule

The train runs six days a week (except Tuesdays).

  • Nagpur to Secunderabad: Departs at 05:00 AM, arrives at 12:15 PM.
  • Secunderabad to Nagpur: Departs at 01:00 PM, arrives at 08:20 PM.

Stops Along the Way

The train halts at five stations: Sevagram, Chandrapur, Ballarshah, Ramagundam, and Kazipet.

Why the Change?

Passenger occupancy has been relatively low, with an average of just 34 percent from September 2024 to January 2025. To optimise the service, Indian Railways has decided to operate the train with only 8 coaches.

The reduction will enhance operational efficiency, speed up turnaround time, and make better use of resources while maintaining the premium Vande Bharat experience.

Despite the reduced number of coaches, passengers can still expect the same world-class amenities, faster travel, and enhanced comfort.
