The Indian government is likely to introduce tax benefits and incentives to make Tesla cars more affordable for Indian buyers.

Tesla’s arrival follows major policy changes in India.

Tesla is finally gearing up to launch in India. Having said that, the electric vehicle (EV) giant plans to open its first showrooms as early as April, according to insider sources.

The company has secured prime retail spaces in New Delhi’s Aerocity and Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). However, these locations will only serve as retail outlets, not service centres, as clarified in an NDTV report.

The company initially aimed to enter India in 2022 but delayed those plans. Last year, it revived efforts to establish a retail presence, and now the launch appears to be just around the corner.

Tesla Car Prices in India: What to Expect

Tesla cars are expected to be priced from Rs 21 lakh in India, positioning them as premium options in the country’s EV market. Here’s a look at the estimated prices for different models:

  • Tesla Cybertruck – Rs 50.70 lakh
  • Tesla Model 2 – Rs 45 lakh
  • Tesla Model 3 – Rs 60 lakh
  • Tesla Model Y – Rs 70 lakh
  • Tesla Model S – Rs 1.50 crore
  • Tesla Model X – Rs 2 crore

Prices are subject to change, but the Indian government’s expected incentives and tax benefits could make these premium EVs more affordable for Indian buyers.

Tesla Cars: All You Need to Know

Tesla stands out for its cutting-edge technology and sleek designs, offering a range of impressive features. The Model 3 Performance variant delivers blistering performance, with 460 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capabilities provide advanced driver assistance, with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control adjusting speed based on surrounding traffic.

One of Tesla’s key advantages is its over-the-air software updates, allowing owners to receive new features and improvements remotely without visiting service centres. The minimalist, tech-driven interiors include a 15.4-inch central touchscreen in the Model 3, along with an 8-inch rear passenger screen for entertainment and controls. The infotainment system also offers options like karaoke, gaming, and a premium 17-speaker audio setup for a truly immersive experience.

Besides these, some models feature tri-zone temperature control, ventilated seats, and HEPA filtration, ensuring superior air quality. Additionally, the Model X boasts a futuristic yoke steering wheel, providing an unobstructed view of the road.

Changes to India’s EV Policy

Tesla’s entry coincides with important policy changes. The recent Union Budget reduced import duties on EVs priced above $40,000 (Approx Rs 35 lakh) from 100 percent to 70 percent. However, the duty for vehicles under $40,000 remains at 70 percent. Industry experts suggest that the Indian government may further adjust its EV import policies, especially considering possible reciprocal tariffs from the US.
