Delhi Assembly Session: BJP Set to Present CAG Reports, Political Storm Expected Over Sheesh Mahal Issue

Today marks the second day of the Delhi Assembly’s winter session, where the BJP government is preparing to present the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) reports on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s tenure. The extensive CAG reports cover multiple issues including state finances, public health infrastructure, air pollution from vehicles, the liquor policy, and the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation. The BJP has consistently accused the AAP government, particularly regarding the alleged mishandling of funds and policies. In a significant development, the CAG reports for 14 key areas will be presented today, but the much-discussed “Sheesh Mahal” report, which became a central issue during the Delhi Assembly elections, will not be included as it was raised in 2023-24. These 14 reports are crucial, as they cover vital topics such as state finance, vehicle pollution control, government hospitals, and public sector operations. Notably, the BJP has been pressing for the Sheesh Mahal report to be tabled, which may cause a major political debate once the other reports are presented. The session will also see speeches from Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and a discussion on the appointment of the Deputy Speaker. Given the sensitive nature of these reports, significant political uproar is expected in the House.
