The last 76 km of the 701-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway is now fully complete.
This key infrastructure project, initiated by Devendra Fadnavis, will soon be open to the public.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has confirmed that the expressway will be fully operational by mid-March. Currently, motorists can drive 625 km from Igatpuri near Nashik to Nagpur.
The final stretch is ready, but a connecting road, being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), is still in progress and is expected to be completed by 10th March, as per Money Control.
Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway: All You Need To Know
The Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway is officially called Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg.
Furthermore, it will cut travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur in half, from 16 hours to just 8 hours. It will also improve connectivity between JNPT in Mumbai and the Nagpur Multimodal International Airport.
The expressway was partially opened in December 2022 and March 2023. Initially, officials planned to open the last 76-km stretch between Igatpuri and Amane in late 2024. However, delays due to state government changes pushed the opening back. Now, MSRDC has decided to finish all pending work and open the entire stretch at once.
When Was the Expressway Inaugurated?
- 11th December 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 520-km stretch between Nagpur and Shirdi.
- 23rd May 2023: Then Chief Minister Eknath Shinde opened the 105-km section from Shirdi to Bharvir.
- 4th March 2024: A 25-km stretch from Bharvir to Igatpuri was opened without a formal event.
