Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that China will continue to retaliate to the United States’ “arbitrary tariffs” and also accused Washington of meeting good with evil. Yi said this in a press conference on Friday on the sidelines of the country’s annual parliamentary session.
He said that the efforts of China to help the US contain its financial crisis have been met with punitive tariffs, and it is straining ties between the countries.
“No country should fantasize that it can suppress China and maintain a good relationship with China at the same time,” Wang said as quoted by AP.
“Such two-faced acts are not good for the stability of bilateral relations or for building mutual trust,” he further added.
Ever since the return of Donald Trump in January as the US President, both countries have been reengaging in tit-for-tat retaliatory tariffs. The US has imposed flat tariffs of 20 percent on all the Chinese imports, while Beijing has also imposed additional 15 percent duties on the imports by the US, including chicken, pork, soy, and beef, and is expanding controls on doing business with the key US companies.
Wang, speaking about the Trump administration’s policy of safeguarding US interests about international cooperation, said that such an approach, if adopted by every country, will result in the law of the jungle.
“Small and weak countries will get burnt first, and the international order and rules will be under severe shock,” Wang said as quoted by AP.

“Major countries should undertake their international obligations … and not seek to profit from and bully the weak,” he further added.
