Disha Vakani, best known for her role as Dayaben in the popular comedy show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has been away from television since 2017, after taking maternity leave. While fans have long speculated about her return to the show, no official confirmation has been made.
Recently, the actress made an appearance on a devotional channel, where she shared her experience of becoming a mother for the first time.
Recalling her pregnancy journey, Disha revealed, “I was told that childbirth could be extremely painful, and I was scared. During my parenting course, someone mentioned that yelling or screaming during labor might frighten the baby. That’s when I decided to chant the Gayatri Mantra instead. I kept repeating it as I was taken to the labour room, and I delivered my little Stuti with a smile. This divine chant gave me immense strength.”
Born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Disha married Chartered Accountant Mayur Padia in 2015. The couple welcomed their daughter, Stuti, in 2017, followed by the birth of their son in 2022.
Earlier this year, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’s producer Asit Modi made a big revelation that Disha will not be returning to the show.
Talking to News18 Showsha, Asit opened up about Daya’s absence from the show and explained it is important to get the iconic character back and admitted that there has been a delay from their side.
“I’m still trying. I suppose Disha is unable to return. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a good relationship with her family. She has tied a Rakhi to me. Her father and brother are also like family to me. You worked together for 17 years and created an extended family,” he said.
He added, “It’s difficult for her to return to the show. Women’s lives change after they marry. Working with small children and maintaining the household is difficult for them. But I am still optimistic. I believe that God will perform a miracle and she will return.”
Apart from TMKOC, Daya has also appeared in several films including Jodhaa Akbar, Mangal Pandey: The Rising, C Kkompany and Love Story 2050.
