Mumbai Metro One, the city’s first elevated Metro line operated by R-Infra, is set to introduce shorter trips between Ghatkopar and Andheri railway station during peak hours.

Having said that, some trains will not continue to Versova. This will further help to reduce crowding and carry an extra 20,000 passengers.

These shorter trips will run from 8:30 am to 10:30 am in the morning and 6 pm to 8 pm in the evening, when the rush is at its highest.

According to The Indian Express, a senior Metro One official confirmed that a trial run was conducted recently, with more tests planned to gather passenger feedback.

The response so far has been largely positive, as 88 percent of Metro One’s daily commuters travel between Ghatkopar and Andheri, where most offices are located. In comparison, only 12 percent travel beyond Andheri to Versova.

Mumbai Metro One, which covers an 11 km route from Ghatkopar to Versova via Andheri, sees nearly 5 lakh commuters daily on weekdays. With these shorter trips, the metro will be able to carry an extra 5,000 passengers per hour during peak times.

Currently, Metro One transports 60,000 passengers at peak times, and this change will increase capacity by 8 percent.

The metro runs 430 daily trips with 16 rakes, maintaining a frequency of 3 minutes 40 seconds. The additional shorter trips will improve this to 3 minutes 15 seconds, making travel faster and smoother for commuters.
