An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 hit Ladakh’s Kargil early on Friday, according to the National Center for Seismology. The earthquake occurred at 2.50 AM at a depth of 15 kilometres. No reports of casualties or significant damage have emerged so far.
Several people took to social media in Jammu and Kashmir, sharing that they felt tremors in cities including Jammu and Srinagar.
According to a post by NCS on X, the earthquake’s epicenter was located at latitude 33.37°N and longitude 76.76°E.

Leh and Ladakh both lie in the Seismic Zone-IV of the country, making them prone to frequent tremors due to their location in the tectonically active Himalayas region.
