India is set to transform high-speed travel with the approval of the hyperloop project spanning 40 kilometres.

Having said that, the Ministry of Railways has given the go-ahead for this futuristic transport system, positioning India at the forefront of next-generation travel, as per India Today.

The project will explore three maglev (magnetic levitation) technologies to find the most cost-effective solution. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai will manufacture the hyperloop modules, based on research from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M).

Next month, TuTr Hyperloop, a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT-M, will begin constructing the world’s first fully operational hyperloop system in India.

A major milestone for the project is the 410-metre-long hyperloop test track at IIT-M – the longest in Asia. This facility will play a crucial role in testing and refining hyperloop technology before large-scale implementation.

This project is a key part of India’s broader vision for infrastructure modernisation, economic growth, and enhanced connectivity.
