Delhi motorists without valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates will face increased scrutiny as new scanning devices have been rolled out at petrol pumps across the capital. These high-tech devices, equipped with cameras, will scan every vehicle entering a petrol pump to identify those without a valid PUC certificate.

If a vehicle is flagged, the device will trigger an audio alert. Crucially, the vehicle’s information, including its age and PUC status, will be recorded on a central portal. This new initiative follows a government directive prohibiting vehicles older than 15 years from refuelling at petrol pumps from April 1. The installation of these devices represents a significant step in enforcing this new regulation.

A PUC certificate, also known as a Pollution Control Certificate, is a legal requirement for all motor vehicles in India. This certificate confirms that a vehicle meets the required pollution control standards, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

To obtain a PUC certificate, vehicle owners can visit any authorised Pollution Testing Centre (PUC Centre) and have their vehicles tested.
