Uber For Teens: Ride Hailing Firm Launches New Feature, Here’s What It Includes

Ride-hailing giant Uber unveiled a new service, ‘Uber for Teens,’ aimed at providing safe and convenient travel options for teenagers aged 13 to 17 years in India.

The company made the announcement on Wednesday and said that the service is currently available in 37 cities, including major metropolitan areas like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.

Uber For Teens: App Offers Parental Controls, Safety Measures

The newly launched feature comes with a host of security protocols designed to reassure parents and guardians, reported IANS. With GPS tracking, real-time ride monitoring, and an in-app emergency button, the service intends to ensure greater safety for teen riders. According to Uber, these measures are aimed at making both parents and their children feel secure while using the platform.

One of the standout features of ‘Uber for Teens’ is parental oversight. Parents can set up a dedicated Teen account, allowing them to request rides, track their child’s journey in real time, and receive detailed trip summaries post-ride. This added transparency offers a layer of protection for young riders, helping parents stay informed at all times.

“We recognise the unique transportation challenges faced by teenagers and their families in India. With Uber for Teens, we are committed to addressing these challenges by providing a service that parents can trust, and that teens will find easy and cool to use,” said Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia.

A recent Uber-conducted survey underscored the challenges parents face in securing reliable transportation for their teens. Findings revealed that 92 percent of parents struggle to find trustworthy travel options, with safety being the top concern for 72 percent of respondents.

Many parents also reported having to personally drive their children to various activities, including extracurricular programs and coaching classes. Specifically, 63 percent used their own vehicles for sports or extracurricular commitments, while 61 percent did the same for after-school coaching sessions.
