The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to begin construction on a long-awaited interchange that will link the Yamuna Expressway with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE).

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the project, clearing the way for construction to begin.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will take charge of the construction, which is expected to cost around Rs 270 crore and take one year to complete.

What the Project Will Look Like

As per TOI, YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh shared his views: “The UP government has approved the construction of the interchange connecting the Yamuna Expressway with EPE. NHAI will now carry out the construction, bear the entire cost, and collect the toll thereafter.”

Key details of the project include:

Design and Construction: The interchange will be built according to NHAI’s own design and specifications. A ground survey has already been completed near Jaganpur-Afzalpur village, which is approximately 10km from the zero point of the Yamuna Expressway.

Infrastructure Layout: The design features four loops spanning 11km and four ramps that will connect the expressways with nearby roads. This layout aims to ensure smooth movement between the corridors.

Funding and Operation: NHAI will manage the overall construction expenses, operations, maintenance, and the toll plaza at the site. The land needed for this project remains under YEIDA’s ownership.

Currently, there is no direct link between these two expressways. Drivers must take a 15–20 km detour, often passing through congested areas like Pari Chowk and Kasna in Greater Noida.

The new interchange will:

  • Cut travel time between Agra and cities like Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Meerut
  • Allow seamless switching between the two expressways
  • Eliminate bottlenecks caused by detours through urban roads
  • Help commuters from Mathura and Agra directly reach the EPE without a 20 km detour

Although the project faced several delays over the past five years since it was first proposed, its approval by the UP cabinet signals a commitment to overcoming these obstacles.

With construction expected to finish within a year, the promise of a smooth, direct link between the two major expressways is closer than ever.
