PM Modi Reconnects With Elon Musk To Discuss Tech Partnerships Amid Tariff Strains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently held a follow-up conversation over the phone, continuing discussions that began during their in-person meeting in Washington, DC earlier this year. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared that their conversation centered around enhancing cooperation in technology and innovation.

“Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” he wrote in his post.

Tariff War

The post comes at a time of growing global tensions, as nations work to forge new trade agreements with the United States amid looming tariff threats. US President Donald Trump has been pushing for a rebalancing of global trade, targeting countries like India for their high tariffs on American imports. In this context, Modi’s message serves as a reassurance to Indian consumers and businesses that partnerships with U.S. companies remain strong and ongoing.

The call also comes at a time when Tesla is reportedly gearing up to establish a manufacturing unit in India, while Reliance Jio has partnered with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet services to the country. The rollout, however, is contingent upon SpaceX obtaining regulatory approval from the Indian government to offer Starlink services officially.
