China Calls Operation Sindoor ‘Regrettable’, Urges India & Pakistan To Work For Stability

Pakistan’s all-weather friend, China, has issued a statement on India’s Operation Sindoor, which was a retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. While China condemned the Pahalgam terror attack earlier, it has now called India’s reaction “regrettable”.

China said: “In response to a media inquiry about the ongoing situation between India and Pakistan, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that China finds India’s military operation early this morning regrettable. We are concerned about the ongoing situation. India and Pakistan are and will always be each other’s neighbours. They’re both China’s neighbours as well. China opposes all forms of terrorism. We urge both sides to act in the larger interest of peace and stability, remain calm, exercise restraint and refrain from taking actions that may further complicate the situation.”

Earlier, China had said it “resolutely opposes all forms of terrorism” and extended “condolences to the victims, and expresses sincere sympathy to the bereaved families and the injured”.

Operation Sindoor

India launched targeted strikes on terror-linked sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday. The operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, was carried out in retaliation for the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people.

In a statement released at 2 AM, the Centre described the mission as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature”, signalling a decisive yet controlled response to mounting cross-border threats.

The airstrikes targeted nine key terror hubs, including Bahawalpur and Mudrike in Pakistan, known strongholds of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, respectively.

Immediately after the attack, the Indian Army posted on X: “Justice is served,” officially announcing the mission’s codename and underscoring India’s resolve to act decisively against terrorism.
