Archana Puran Singh and Kapil Sharma share a strong comfort bond, often reflected in the on-stage banters. Archana, known for her remarkable comic timing, has witnessed Kapil’s rise from Comedy Circus to Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. A few years ago, the comedian jokingly gagged about how Archana gets paid only to laugh in the show. As it sat well with the audience, this remark has become a running joke on the show.

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, the actress opened up about Kapil’s popular gag and revealed that she is also unaware of her role in the comedy show. Archana stated, “Now it’s become a joke. Kapil makes jokes about everything, people take it seriously. I don’t because I know the name of the game is make a punch, get a laugh out of it, and move on.”

The 62-year-old actress further said, “Yes, I am paid to judge a comedy show, which is what I initially started doing with Comedy Circus. Now, I am paid to not judge Kapil’s show, but to be a celebrity guest. I don’t even know what my role is. Kapil only keeps joking. How am I paid to laugh? In a way, I am paid to enjoy the show, and because my enjoyment is very loud and spontaneous, it translates to I am paid to laugh.”

Archana Puran Singh added that now her sons Aryamann and Ayushmaan have started throwing similar punches at her, mimicking Kapil Sharma’s gags. “Then my kids pick up on that and throw similar punches at me. In my vlogs, you see, I am laughing even when I am not paid to do so. It is just a joke. I go along with it because I think it’s very funny,” she stated.

She also reflected on her bond with Kapil, recalling how she met him on Comedy Circus, where Kapil was a contestant like the other 10. “Our association started then. Who knew that it would come so far? It was an association built on mutual respect,” Archana asserted.

On the professional front, Archana Puran Singh is gearing up for Rajkummar Rao’s maiden production, Toaster, which is set to release directly on the OTT platform Netflix. The actress will be seen in The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3.
