Pakistan’s federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Geo News, the move was made “for ensuring the security of the country and defeating the enemy via best strategy and courageous leadership during ‘Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos’.”
General Munir thus becomes only the second individual in Pakistan’s history to be bestowed with the prestigious five-star rank of Field Marshal — the first being General Ayub Khan. However, unlike Khan, who had conferred the title upon himself, Munir’s promotion comes with formal cabinet approval.
India’s Global Diplomatic Campaign To Expose Pakistan’s Role In Fostering Global Terrorism
This comes as India is set to launch a multi-nation diplomatic campaign aimed at exposing Pakistan’s role in fostering global terrorism. One of the seven all-party delegations — led by Janata Dal (United) leader and national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha — is scheduled to depart for Eastern nations on Wednesday.
“Our delegation will leave the country tomorrow. We will go to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore,” Jha told the media at Patna airport on Tuesday, as quoted by news agency IANS. He added that the objective is to “expose Pakistan globally and tell the entire world about how it nurtures and propagates terrorism.”
Following the successful completion of ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Modi government has unveiled an extensive plan to diplomatically isolate Pakistan by dismantling its narrative and highlighting its role in exporting terrorism beyond Indian borders. The delegations, comprising Members of Parliament and leaders from various parties, have been tasked with meeting representatives of friendly countries and United Nations Security Council member states to present evidence of Pakistan’s alleged terror infrastructure.
Sanjay Kumar Jha’s delegation includes BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, Congress leader Salman Khurshid, and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan, who has since been replaced by Abhishek Banerjee.
Emphasising bipartisan unity, Jha stated, “We are going abroad not as representatives of any party, but as representatives of the country.” He also reinforced the Modi government’s firm stance on Pakistan’s actions, saying, “This is the new normal and any further act of aggression from Pakistan will now be treated as an ‘act of war’.”
All seven delegations, including seasoned diplomats and political leaders from across the spectrum, are expected to convey India’s message of zero tolerance against terrorism and reaffirm its resolve to fight terror in all its manifestations.
