Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the two-day event ‘Rising Northeast: The Investors’ Summit 2025′, scheduled from May 23 to 24 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The summit aims to highlight the trade and investment opportunities available in the Northeastern region.
The summit will be organised by the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER) in partnership with FICCI and Invest India. It also highlights the geostrategic advantage, skilled workforce, abundant natural resources, and access to captive markets in the Northeast region and neighbouring countries.
“The Northeast region is an emerging frontier for businesses, and the summit offers an ideal platform for forging alliances, partnerships, and acquiring a clear vision of the opportunities available for expanding businesses, making new investments, setting up green field manufacturing projects and associated activities,” ANI quoted an official of DoNER as saying.
The event will serve as a platform for investors to engage in the Northeast’s growth as a hub for manufacturing and services. It will also inform companies targeting emerging markets in ASEAN and BBN (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal) about the region’s policy framework and various incentives that can support their expansion beyond India’s borders.
Ahead of the summit, promotional roadshows were held in seven major Indian cities to attract investor interest and spotlight the Northeast’s economic potential. “The summit promises to become a major platform for networking with industry leaders, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders from the region, offering excellent opportunities for exploring tie-ups, expansions, and MoUs via G2B, B2B meetings on the sidelines of the summit,” said the official.
More than 200 high-level delegates, including industry leaders, multilaterals, policymakers, start-ups and investors, are expected to engage in discussions focused on over nine key sectors. These include agriculture and allied industries, food processing, textiles, handloom and handicrafts, entertainment and sports, education and skill development, healthcare, IT and IT-enabled services, tourism and hospitality, infrastructure and logistics, and energy.
Assam Powerhouse Of Opportunities: Himanta Biswa Sarma
A senior delegation from Assam, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will also attend the summit. As a key state and gateway to the Northeast, Assam will present its core strengths across both established and emerging sectors.
“Our inherent strengths – geographical, natural resources, guided by the vision of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has made Assam a powerhouse of opportunities. From tea to trade and tourism, we offer enormous possibilities for business,” said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.
This region offers a competitive edge with lower labor costs to investors as compared to other parts of India and globally, along with a skilled and English-speaking workforce.
In addition, the region’s infrastructure is developing rapidly with the establishment of industrial parks and technology parks. The business environment in the Northeast is favorable as it provides a low crime rate, political stability, and proactive government policies. Crucially, the Northeast is becoming an emerging consumer market, driven by rising incomes and urbanisation, making it a promising destination for future investments.
