One of the biggest advantages of SwaRail is that it uses AI to improve the user experience.
Once its testing phase ends, SwaRail will officially replace the Rail Connect app. (News18)
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has just launched SwaRail, a new super app aimed at transforming how we book and manage train journeys.
While the Rail Connect app has long been a favourite for travellers, SwaRail promises to be smarter, faster, and packed with more features.
Let’s look at how the two apps compare—and why SwaRail could soon become the one-stop solution for all your railway needs.
Rail Connect
Rail Connect has been the go-to app for millions of train travellers in India. It allows users to:
- Book tickets online
- Check PNR status
- View train charts
All you need is an IRCTC account to get started.
SwaRail
SwaRail, now available for both Android and iOS, is not just a replacement — it’s a major upgrade. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), SwaRail is currently in its beta testing phase (version 127).
Apart from reserved ticket booking, it also allows:
- Booking unreserved (UTS) and platform tickets
- Checking real-time train status
- Ordering food on the train
- Tracking parcels and freight services
- Accessing rail-related help and support
It even supports online catering and integrates AI tools to offer a smarter, more personal experience.
One Login, All Services
Passengers can simply use their existing IRCTC or UTS app credentials to access SwaRail. This means no hassle of creating new accounts or remembering extra passwords.
What’s Next?
While Rail Connect is still functional, SwaRail clearly steps ahead with its modern design and all-inclusive features. Once its testing phase ends, SwaRail will officially replace the Rail Connect app. With all services rolled into one sleek interface, IRCTC is aiming to simplify train travel like never before.
Whether you’re booking a sleeper seat or just hopping on for a short unreserved ride, SwaRail wants to be the only app you’ll ever need.
