Tamil Nadu Braces For Heavy Rain From June 10–13; Chennai To See Light Showers Tomorrow


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of heavy rainfall across various parts of Tamil Nadu from June 10 to 13. Several districts are expected to receive intense showers during this period, while Chennai is likely to experience moderate rain and thunderstorms starting Sunday, June 9.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast

In terms of the current weather conditions, light rainfall was reported in isolated pockets of Tamil Nadu. However, dry weather continued to prevail in the union territories of Puducherry and Karaikal. Over the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures across some parts of the state dropped by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Despite this, isolated areas still witnessed temperatures above normal. Vellore emerged as the hottest location, recording a maximum of 39.8°C, while Karur Paramathi saw the lowest minimum temperature at 23.0°C.

Tamil Nadu To Experience Rainfall From June 10-13

According to the IMD, the rainfall pattern for the coming days has been mapped out in detail. On Monday, June 10, heavy rains are likely in districts such as Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, and Villupuram, in addition to Puducherry. The intensity of the rainfall is expected to increase on Tuesday, June 11, with districts including Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi predicted to receive significant showers.

Moving into Wednesday, June 12, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Nilgiris. On Thursday, June 13, heavy rainfall is forecast for the Nilgiris and the ghat areas of Coimbatore district.

Chennai Rains

As far as the capital city is concerned, the weather outlook for Chennai indicates the possibility of moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, beginning Sunday. These rains are expected to bring temporary respite from the prevailing heat conditions in the city.

Independent weather watcher Srikanth, who runs the well-known blog ‘Chennai Rains’ (COMK), offered additional insight stating that, “While there is no good news yet on afternoon heat for #TamilNadu a developing wind convergence may bring back #Thunderstorms over Peninsular #India gradually from today with better prospects from tomorrow. Slight chance for suburbs of #Chennai to see some rains today.”
