The gruesome rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has led to a series of alarming revelations, raising significant concerns about the safety of female doctors and medical professionals.
A major revelation has emerged through ABP News’s ‘Operation RG Kar’, exposing the mafia network allegedly active at the medical college. The investigation has unveiled how this network, reportedly led by former principal Sandeep Ghosh, became active following the incident. Moreover, it has brought to light how attempts were made to derail the investigation into the heinous crime.
A sting operation revealed that Ghosh allegedly became active post-incident, Ghosh dialed his right-hand man Debashish several times after the crime.
Debashish, known to be the closest aide of Sandeep Ghosh, was revealed to have received four calls from the RG Kar hospital’s then-principal after the rape and murder. Dr. Reena Das, a member of the post-mortem team for the victim, provided further insight, stating, “Debashish is Sandeep Ghosh’s advisor. Whatever Sandeep Ghosh says, Debashish does. He holds Ghosh in high regard and is a person with a criminal mindset.”
She said that several people reached the crime scene including politicians, police, external medical staff, and a lawyer.
Dr Reena Das, who is posted at R.G. Kar Medical College, was a part of the team that conducted the post-mortem of the victim. Initially reluctant to speak, Dr Das eventually opened up after certain links were mentioned during the conversation.

When questioned about whether there was any pressure during the post-mortem, Dr. Das denied it but hinted at a different possibility. She stated, “I was not given any such pressure, but it might be possible that since I was there, they could not do anything like that.”
Reena Das said that Sandeep Ghosh used his influence to put a lot of mental pressure on students and professors.
Additionally, another former forensic expert of RG Kar College, in the sting operation by ABP News, implicated political figures in the case, stating, “It is clear that there is a political hand behind this case. The political people who are in power here are providing protection to them.”
ABP News’ sting operation has also revealed the fraud that was happening in RG Kar Medical College regarding dead bodies. Debashish, a close aide of the former principal, said, “I saw… the bodies of five people were taken from here (college)… a workshop was held.” According to the allegations that have surfaced, the bodies that came for postmortem were misused and several complaints against Dr Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal were ignored.
