Heavy rains that lashed Bengaluru overnight on Monday caused massive traffic jams and waterlogging across the city, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
With flooded roads and bumper-to-bumper traffic, getting a cab or auto became nearly impossible — and for those who managed, the fares had skyrocketed.
The morning rush saw steep fare hikes on popular app-based cab services, especially for routes heading to the airport or tech parks. Many users said they tried for over an hour to book a ride, only to face constant cancellations or no availability at all.
Here’s a look at how much the fares surged, as per Deccan Herald:

Here’s How Commuters Reacted
Samhita NB, who was supposed to catch a flight to Hyderabad, had to postpone her travel after she failed to get a cab despite trying for over an hour. Another commuter from Sarjapur missed his flight to Goa after a 3-hour-long ride to the airport that cost him Rs 2,000.
Rashmi N from Sahakar Nagar said she ended up working from home after all her rides were cancelled. Even after offering a tip and facing surge pricing of Rs 300, she couldn’t get to her office near Embassy Manyata Business Park.
Surge Pricing Between 8 AM to 11 AM
Most users reported that the worst fare hikes were seen between 8 am and 11 am, especially in key areas like Whitefield, Electronic City, and Koramangala. Many cabs and autos cancelled rides, citing waterlogging and poor road conditions near tech parks.
