BMW has revealed a refreshed version of its flagship electric SUV, the iX, with significant power and efficiency upgrades.

Production of the new iX will begin in March 2025 at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany, as per Autocar. The facelifted BMW iX is set to launch globally in spring 2025, with an expected arrival in India by the end of the year.

Currently, the iX is only available in the xDrive 50 variant in India, priced at Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It remains to be seen if BMW will bring the full range or just one variant of the facelifted model to India.

The facelifted iX will be available in three variants, now renamed to reflect the SUV’s enhanced performance. The iX 40 and iX 50 have been rebranded as the iX 45 and iX 60, while the former top-of-the-range M60 is now the M70. All variants come with the option of M Sport packages, with the iX M70 also offering an additional M Sport Pro trim.

While the exterior remains mostly similar, there are some notable design tweaks. The kidney grille now features horizontally opposed diagonal lines, and buyers can opt for BMW’s Iconic Glow Illumination for the grille. The front bumper has been redesigned with larger central air intakes and slimmer vertical ones on either side. The headlights feature a new diagonal LED signature inspired by the M4 CS.

On the sides, the iX gets a new silver insert on the skirts and updated 20-inch alloy wheels. The M Sport package offers 21- and 22-inch wheels, with the iX M70 available with 23-inch wheels. At the back, the only change is a redesigned bumper with an integrated diffuser.

Inside, the iX remains largely the same, but the steering wheel now features a round three-spoke design. The most significant update is the new M Multi-Function seats, standard in the iX M70 and available as part of the M Sport package for the iX 45 and 60. These seats offer improved contouring, lumbar support, backrest width, and active ventilation. Materials such as Castanea natural leather and microfibre/Sensatec are available, with M-specific stitching for a sporty touch.

All variants of the new iX feature dual motors and all-wheel drive. The iX 45 now boasts a larger 94.8kWh battery, producing 402 bhp and 700 Nm of torque—an increase of 80 bhp and 70 Nm over the previous model. The iX 60 gets a 109.1kWh battery, providing 536 bhp and 765 Nm, while the performance-focused iX M70 offers 659 bhp and up to 1,100 Nm of torque (with launch control), 49 bhp more than its predecessor.

In terms of range, the iX 60 leads with a claimed 701km, while the iX 45 offers up to 602km, and the iX M70 closely follows with 600km. The iX M70 and iX 60 support fast DC charging speeds of up to 195kW, while the iX 45 offers 175kW.
