Met Issues ‘Orange’ Alert For Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall In Himachal On August 10

The regional Meteorological Office has issued an ‘orange’ warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday. A ‘yellow’ warning for heavy rain is in effect until August 15.

The Met Office also warned of a low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Mandi, Bilaspur, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, and Kullu districts through Saturday.

Additionally, the department cautioned about the potential for landslides and flash floods in some areas, as well as possible damage to crops, plantations, vulnerable structures, and kutcha houses due to strong winds and waterlogging in low-lying regions.

Since Thursday evening, Jogindernagar in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall at 160 mm, followed by Dharamshala with 112.4 mm, Kataula with 112.3 mm, Bharari with 98.4 mm, Kandaghat with 80 mm, Palampur with 78.2 mm, Pandoh with 76 mm, Baijnath with 75 mm, Kufri with 70.8 mm, and Shimla with 60.5 mm.

World Lion Day Celebrations To Take Place Across Gujarat On August 10

Gujarat is preparing to celebrate World Lion Day on August 10 with a variety of events across the state. Chief Minister Patel will launch the celebrations by introducing a ‘Lion Anthem’ and unveiling the Sinh Suchna Web App. The day will also see the release of two books titled ‘The King of the Jungle – The Asiatic Lions of Gir’ and ‘Hu Gujarat no Sinh.’

According to PTI, the Chief Minister will address the state via video conference from Gandhinagar, reaching audiences throughout Gujarat. Officials stated that the World Lion Day celebrations will extend to over 7,000 schools and colleges across 10 districts and 74 talukas within the Asiatic Lions’ habitat.

To raise awareness about lion conservation, students will wear lion masks and participate in rallies. Educational institutions will also host speeches focusing on the significance of lions and the challenges they face.

Gujarat’s Forest Department has been actively celebrating World Lion Day since 2016.
