In a recent interview with ABP, India’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently discussed the government’s ambitious AI mission, aiming to establish India as a global leader in artificial intelligence. The government has allocated ₹1,000 crores to boost AI development, focusing on three key aspects: compute capacity, data sets, and safety protocols. To achieve this, India is investing heavily in GPUs and data infrastructure, with 1,800 GPUs approved, exceeding the initial target. The AI mission also emphasizes data protection, ensuring that data is hosted on Indian servers to enhance security. Experts recommend using MIT’s license mechanism for safe data hosting. The initiative includes research on AI safety, with 18 projects across various sectors like education, agriculture, and healthcare. Vaishnaw highlighted the need for innovation while being mindful of the risks, assuring that AI technology will be developed responsibly, with input from technical experts both within India and globally.
