BSF apprehends four Bangladeshi cattle smugglers in Malda


The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday said it has apprehended four Bangladeshi cattle smugglers, who were trying to infiltrate into India from Bangladesh by taking advantage of the darkness and fog on Sunday.

“During interrogation, the smugglers who were caught admitted that they are all citizens of Bangladesh and were trying to enter India for the purpose of illegal cattle smuggling,” a press statement by the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF said on Monday.

The apprehensions occurred along the border outpost Itaghati of the 88th Battalion of BSF where usually smuggling of cattle comes through the Punarbhaba river.

According to BSF the smugglers said they would get ₹40,000 in exchange for smuggling two cattle from India to Bangladesh. The arrested Bangladeshi cattle smugglers have been handed over to the concerned police station for further action and information is being collected about other people involved in cattle smuggling.

Over the past few weeks tensions along India Bangladesh border have been reported in several parts including borders in Malda over erecting fencing along the border. There have been tensions along Sukhdevpur border outpost in Malda over border fencing. Locals from both sides of the border had also clashed along the border.
