Civil Supplies authorities seize 92 tonnes of PDS rice at Kakinada Anchorage Port

Kakinada district Civil Supplies authorities have seized 92 tonnes of rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) at the entrance of the Kakinada Anchorage Port.

The consignment is on its way to the barge that transports it to the ships anchored at the port. The details of the exporter are yet to be ascertained.

“On February 21, we seized 92 MT of PDS rice that arrived at the landfront of the Kakinada Anchorage Port in four lorries for export. The lorries were seized at the Civil Supplies Department’s check-post at the Bombay Gate of the port,” Joint Collector Rahul Meena told The Hindu on February 23 (Sunday).

The Civil Supplies Department had set up two check-posts to monitor the rice being exported from the Kakinada Anchorage Port.

The recent surprise check by Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan had exposed the illegal export of PDS rice from the Kakinada Anchorage Port and the Deep Sea Port.

“Odisha-based B.K. Commodities has purchased the PDS rice in Anakapalli district. Details of the exporter are being ascertained. A case has been registered against the export handling agent under Section 6 (A) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955,” said Kakinada District Civil Supplies Officer Prasanna.
