CPI(M) team visits Uri’s shelling-affected areas

A Communist Party of India(M) parliamentarian delegation, led by party general secretary MA Baby, visited the shelling-affected areas of Uri in Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Tuesday. The members demanded that the compensation of ₹1.30 lakh per family should be reviewed.

Baby, while interacting with media persons, reiterated the demand for a special session of Parliament to discuss the plight of the border residents and stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rhetoric cannot compensate what people along the border – mostly in Poonch, Kupwara and Baramulla – have suffered.

“The situation here is highly distressing. Devastation and destruction created due to shelling is huge. The government has promised ₹1.30 lakh compensation for each family but this is very less considering the situation on ground,” said Baby, who has promised to raise the issue in Parliament. He said that the Opposition had demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the plight of people in the border areas but the PM is refusing to do that.
