‘Delhi Free Of A Decade Of AAP-Da’: Modi Says CAG Report Of AAP Govt In First Assembly Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers at party headquarters in New Delhi after the outfit’s return to power in Delhi after a 27-year hiatus. Addressing the workers, he said, “Delhi is enthusiastic and relieved. Delhi is relieved to be free of ‘Aapda’.” He thanked the electorate for giving his ‘guarantees’ a chance and declared the CAG report of the AAP government would be tabled in the BJP-led Delhi government’s first assembly session.

“Delhi’s double engine government will ensure double development,” he remarked as he began his speech with ‘Yamuna maaiya ki jai’ chant. “This is a historic win and not ordinary, the people of Delhi have ousted ‘Aapda’, Delhi is free of a decade of ‘Aapda’,” he said as he hailed it as a win of development.

“Today the people of Delhi have made it clear. The real owner of Delhi is only the people of Delhi. Those who thought of being the owners of Delhi have been confronted with the truth. This is also clear from the mandate of Delhi that there is no place for shortcuts and lies in politics. The people have done a short circuit of shortcut politics,” he further quipped as he hit out at AAP.

“AAP-da came to power saying they will change politics but they turned out to be ‘kattar beimaan’. Anna Hazare was bearing the pain of the misdeeds of AAP, but now he must be relieved of that suffering today. The party was born out of an anti-corruption movement but went on to be mired in corruption,” PM Modi remarked.

Slamming AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, he said, “The Chief Minister and ministers of this party went to jail over corruption allegations. They gave themselves certificates of honesty and handed out medals of dishonesty to others, they turned out to be corrupt. This was a deceit to Delhi’s trust.”

“The liquor scam gave Delhi a bad name, the scams in schools and hospitals troubled the poor. They were so arrogant that when the world was dealing with Corona crisis, the people of ‘Aapda’ were making a ‘sheeshmahal’. They hatched new conceal to their scams,” he said.

In a significant remark, PM Modi declared that the CAG report on the AAP-led Delhi government’s tenure will be tabled in the first assembly session. “Corruption will be probed. Whoever has looted, will have to pay back. This is Modi’s guarantee.”

He accused the AAP of stalling Metro expansion, not letting poor people living in slums have houses under the PM Awas Yojana and access benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

“Delhi has flourished in the lap of Mother Yamuna. The people of Delhi were anguished after seeing the condition of Yamuna as the AAP-DA in Delhi has insulted this faith. For their own failure, such a big accusation has been made on the people of Haryana. I have pledged during the election campaign that we will make Yamuna ji the identity of Delhi. I know this is not very difficult. No matter how much time is taken, no matter how much energy is used, but if the resolve is strong, then blessings of Yamuna ji will remain with us,” he said.

“People of Delhi have been grappling with broken roads, mounting garbage, sewer overall, and polluted air. The BJP government will make Delhi a modern city with development. For the first time since Independence, every state of Delhi-NCR has a BJP government. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have BJP governments, it is a happy coincidence,” PM Modi remarked.

Congress Hit A Double Hattrick Of ‘Zero’ In Delhi Elections: PM Modi

PM Narendra Modi also hit out at the Congress over its poll rout in Delhi saying, “Today again the people have given a message to the Congress. Congress has hit a double hattrick of ‘zero’ in Delhi elections. The oldest party in the country is not able to get even one seat in the national capital for the last 6 times. They are giving the gold medal of defeat to themselves.”

“Congress steals issues of its allies and attempts to appropriate their vote banks. It has stolen issues of the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, the DMK in Tamil Nadu, and RJD in Bihar. Congress also tried to appropriate BJP vote bank by making rounds of temples but stopped when it realised they are not succeeding,” he added.

He noted how INDIA bloc members entered the fray against Congress in Delhi, “they managed to defeat Congress but could not help AAP win”.

He thanked the women voters saying he has been ‘blessed’ by them in the capital and emphasised that the promises made to them would be fulfilled, “Women power has always blessed me; I have fulfilled promises made to them, will do so again in Delhi.”

The Prime Minister pointed to the diversity of Delhi’s various linguistic groups that inhabit the capital. “There is no area in Delhi where the lotus did not bloom. People speaking every language have voted for the BJP. Our Delhi is not just a city, it is a mini India. Delhi lives the idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. During this election, wherever I went in this election, I used to say with pride that I am an MP from Purvanchal. The people of Purvanchal gave love, trust, new energy, new strength. Therefore, as an MP from Purvanchal, I especially thank the people of Purvanchal,” he said.

PM Modi also highlighted the BJP’s ‘spectacular victory’ in Ayodhya’s Milkipur Assembly bypoll, remarking that the people have rejected the politics of ‘tushtikaran (appeasement)’ and opted for BJP’s politics of ‘santushtikaran (satisfaction)’.

He also lauded the work of the BJP’s allies Nitish Kumar of Bihar and Chandrababu Nadu of Andhra Pradesh saying, “NDA is a guarantee of development and good governance.”

Concluding his address, PM Modi said that Indian politics needs transformation and fresh blood to get rid of politics of deceit and foolishness. He invited youth to join politics so that people ‘undeserving’ to be in politics do not get a chance to rule the country.

BJP Sweeps Delhi, Ousting AAP After 10 Years; Kejriwal, Sisodia Defeated

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a resounding comeback in Delhi, sweeping the assembly elections and ending the decade-long rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The victory marks the BJP’s return to power in the national capital after 26 years, delivering a crushing blow to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s party.

According to the Election Commission website, the BJP won or was leading in 48 of the 70 seats, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 36, while the AAP lagged behind with 22 seats. The Congress, which once dominated Delhi politics under the late Sheila Dikshit, failed to open its account for a third time in the bipolar contest.

Accepting the verdict, Kejriwal said, “We fought a good election… We will play the role of constructive opposition but will also be available to the people of Delhi.”

The election outcome has raised serious questions about AAP’s future beyond Delhi. Having governed the city for 10 years since 2015, the party now holds power only in Punjab, signalling a major setback to its national ambitions.

The BJP’s landslide victory further cements its dominance after last year’s wins in Haryana and Maharashtra, where it is part of the Mahayuti alliance. The party also retained all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in the 2024 general elections.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the victory, stating, “Development, good governance have won; we will leave no stone unturned for Delhi’s all-round development.”

Home Minister Amit Shah also took a swipe at AAP, declaring, “The people of Delhi have dismantled the sheesh mahal (glass palace) of lies, deceit and corruption and made the city AAP-da free.” The term AAP-da, meaning disaster in Hindi, was widely used by the BJP during its campaign to target AAP.

BJP’s Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva attributed the party’s win to its focus on key issues affecting Delhiites. “We fought the elections on real issues such as broken roads, liquor policy controversies, dirty water and corruption. Delhi’s pain is real, and the people have voted to end it by choosing PM Modi’s leadership,” he said.

Who Will Be Delhi’s Next CM?

With the BJP’s return to power, the question of who will be the next Chief Minister remains open. Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, who defeated Kejriwal, said, “Who will be chief minister will be decided by the central leadership.” Sachdeva echoed this, stating, “The next Delhi chief minister will be from the BJP, but the central leadership will decide on who it will be.”

The BJP secured 45.7 per cent of the vote share, while AAP managed 43.7 per cent, and Congress trailed far behind with just 6.3 per cent.
