Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the highly anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on December 17. This expressway is expected to transform road travel by reducing the journey time from 6.5 hours to a mere 2.5 hours. The expressway is slated for full operation by January 2025.

A significant portion of the construction of the 264-km-long highway is complete. The route will commence at Akshardham in Delhi and traverse through Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Shamli, Saharanpur, and Haridwar, before finally connecting with NH-72 in Dehradun.

Initiated in 2021, this is the first expressway in India designed to be wildlife-friendly.

The expressway features a 19-km elevated stretch in Delhi, commencing at Akshardham and merging with the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE). For those travelling from Uttar Pradesh, entry points have been incorporated near Mandola, Vijay Vihar, and 5 Pushta Road.

One of the remarkable features of the expressway is Asia’s largest wildlife corridor; a 12-km-long elevated road that traverses over dense forests. Travellers might even glimpse wildlife as the corridor passes through Rajaji National Park.
