Dell is ending its hybrid work policy from March 3, with employees living within an hour of the office expected to work on-site five days a week, according to a Business Insider report. Employees working remotely due to their distance from office or other factors will need approval from three of the senior-most company leaders in order to obtain a promotion, it added.

Dell CEO Michael Dell justified the decision by noting that human conversations could quickly handle what would take hours or days-long email exchanges to resolve otherwise. The details of the return-to-office mandate are still being worked out, per the report.

Tech companies such as Amazon have mandated a return to office for employees, in spite of their unwillingness to do so.

Dell offers remote work solutions as part of its suite of products.
