Delnaaz Irani has carved a niche for herself in the entertainment industry. She is an all-around performer who has worked in television, Bollywood, OTT, and theatre. Not just this, she has also competed on the most popular controversial reality show, Bigg Boss season 6. The actress, who reached the semi-finals, handled the show gracefully and kept the crowd entertained. Well now, she recently appeared for an interview with The Indian Express’s SCREEN.
During the conversation, she spoke about the moments that shaped her during her formative years, why she chose to participate in Bigg Boss and her memories from Kal Ho Naa Ho. Speaking about her decision to participate in the show, Delnaaz said, “Bigg Boss happened in 2011 when I was already established in the industry. With Bigg Boss, it was not like I gained anything or lost anything, there was no change, it was just like a feather in my cap. The only thing I can say I gained from that show was money.”
“That was a time when I needed the money, I said yes to the show for money. I was so shattered in my personal life that I had to just step into that show. There are two different women — Delnaaz then and Delnaaz you see today. If I go on the show now, I will be quite a tough contender,” she added.
Sharing how she was facing a tough time financially back then, she added, “Back then I was not in a good position, I was probably playing safe, just wanting to please people and be secure so that I was there for 14 weeks. The kind of remuneration that one gets for Bigg Boss… I had to repay too many loans. I had to rearrange things for myself post that show. Bigg Boss came at a time when I needed it, and I am quite grateful for it.”
In the same conversation, she also recounted the filming of Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic climax scene when he was counting the last few minutes of his life during Kal Ho Naa Ho. Delnaaz Irani, who played Preity Zinta’s best friend Sweetu in the film, said no one needed glycerin that day to let the tears roll. She also mentioned that had it not been for director Nikkhil Advani, she wouldn’t have been on the sets to watch the making of the scene.
The actress also recalled how she never left TV for films or vice versa, instead, she dabbled in all the mediums. She is a part of the television show Mannat and was seen in Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies in 2023.
