‘Disgraceful Assault On Values’: MPs Seek Ban On Ajaz Khan’s Show, Ullu App After ‘Vulgar’ Clip

A clip from Ullu App’s reality show House Arrest has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage for its explicit content. The scene, featuring former Bigg Boss contestant Ajaz Khan, has drawn strong criticism from politicians and netizens alike, with several demanding immediate action from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B).

In the viral video, Ajaz Khan is seen instructing contestants to enact various sex positions, with several moments described by viewers as overtly suggestive and distasteful.

The controversy intensified as social media users accused the show of promoting vulgarity under the guise of entertainment.

BJP MP from Jharkhand’s Godda constituency, Nishikant Dubey, reshared a tweet containing the viral video and tagged the I&B Ministry. He wrote, “Yaha nahi chalega. Hamari committee iss par karwaai karegi,” which translates to, “This won’t do. Our committee will take action against this.”

Rajya Sabha MP and former National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma also condemned the show, stating, “Ajaz Khan’s House Arrest is a disgraceful assault on our cultural values. Vulgarity, exploitation, and indecency are being sold as content. It’s not just the host—platforms, producers, and enablers must be held accountable. @MIB_India @NCWIndia must take urgent action. #BanHouseArrest”

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said she had flagged the issue to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, pointing out that certain OTT platforms continue to evade regulations. “I have raised this in the standing committee that apps such as this, namely, Ullu App and Alt Balaji have managed to escape the ban by I&B ministry on apps for obscene content. I am still awaiting their reply,” Chaturvedi posted on X.

In another post, she noted that while 18 OTT platforms were recently banned, “Surprisingly 2 of the biggest apps were kept out- Ullu and Alt Balaji, will I&B tell the country why were they left out from this ban?”

BJP leader Chitra Wagh also weighed in, saying, “Stop giving free rein to obscenity in the name of freedom. And, immediately impose restrictions on Ajaz Khan’s House Arrest show. This so-called actor’s show has crossed all limits of obscenity. The clips of the show are going viral on social media, which is absolutely disgusting.”

BJP Yuva Morcha Bihar chief Barun Raj Singh urged Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene, writing, “There is a show called House Arrest hosted by #EijazKhan. In this show, girls are made to take off their bras and panty. As the girls take off their underwear, the host of the show and the rest of the people boo and clap. They talk about on-camera sex position. Such shows should be stopped immediately. Save our children @AshwiniVaishnaw sir.”

Ajaz Khan has yet to issue a statement regarding the backlash.

Govt’s ‘Perversity’ Remark In Supreme Court Over Obscene Content On OTT Platforms

The controversy comes shortly after a Supreme Court ruling expressed concern over obscene content on OTT platforms, observing that such content can reach the “extent of perversity”. The apex court emphasised the “social responsibility” of these platforms and issued notices to the Union Government and several OTT platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, AltBalaji, Ullu Digital, and Mubi, as well as social media platforms like X Corp, Google, Meta Inc and Apple.

According to India Today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, the second highest law officer of the Union government, told the bench, “Some content is perverted to an extent that even two respectable men can’t sit together and watch. Condition is 18+ must not watch. But there cannot be censorship. There are some regulations in place, some are in contemplation.”

The court noted that, “The Solicitor General (SG) fairly states that content go to the extent of perversity.”
