A massive fire erupted in a four-storey textile market in Surat, Gujarat, on Wednesday morning, according to an official, as reported by news agency PTI. Efforts to extinguish the flames are ongoing, with several of the more than 800 shops in the building suffering damage. However, no casualties have been reported so far, a fire department official stated. Chief Fire Officer Basant Kumar Parikh, quoted by ANI, mentioned that the intense heat inside the building is due to the large quantity of stored materials. “We received the first emergency call around 8 AM yesterday. The structural stability of the building remains uncertain. We are using a hydraulic platform to combat the fire externally. Nearly 50% of the stores have been affected,” he added.
