Hina Khan’s portrayal of the iconic Komolika in Ektaa Kapoor’s Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 remains unforgettable. The role marked a bold departure from her earlier image as the calm and composed housewife in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. In a recent post, Hina reminisced about the time when she won Best Actor in both the Popular and Critics’ Choice categories at the Indian Telly Awards for her performance as Komolika.
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ektaa Kapoor for entrusting her with the iconic role. On Monday, Hina Khan posted a throwback picture which featured her with both her trophies at the Indian Telly Awards. In a note attached to the post, Hina Khan thanked Ektaa Kapoor, saying, “Thank You Ektaa Kapoor for giving me Komo.”
Taking a trip down memory lane, she also recalled, “This picture popped up after so many years.. Goshhhh what a day.. I remember I was leaving after my first award was announced. These guys just requested me to wait, and I was puzzled WHY.. A very RARE moment in an actors life when u win BEST ACTOR critics and popular both.. Forever Grateful IndianTellyAwards (sic).”
Moved by Hina Khan’s words, Ektaa Kapoor reshared the post on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “You are such a star, my darling Hina (sic).” Well, the post has disappeared now due to Instagram’s 24-hour feature.
In a previous interaction with the Indian Express, Hina Khan admitted she was not confident about playing Komolika on screen but signed up for the role only after Ektaa’s insistence. She said, “Playing Komolika was not a conscious choice. Ekta Kapoor was the one who pumped me up and pushed me to do it. I was not at all confident to play an antagonist, that too Komolika. The iconic Urvashi Dholakia killed it, so in my head, it was just impossible to play the character any better.”
Kasautii Zindagii Kay 2 featured Parth Samthaan and Erica Fernandes as the lead pair whereas Hina Khan joined them to play the antagonist. For season 1 of the daily soap, Urvashi Dholakia was roped in to essay the negative character, which eventually made her a household name.
