Addressing a gathering in Maharashtra’s Palghar, PM Narendra Modi on Friday spoke about the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue collapse incident in Sindhudurg.
He said, “Before I start discussing about this event, I want to express my feelings… What happened in Sindhudurg few days ago, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name for me and my friends. For us, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a Maharaja; for us, he is revered. Today, I bow down before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and seek apology”

“Our values are different, we are not those who keep abusing Veer Savarkar, disrespect him, crush the sentiments of patriots, and despite all this, they are not ready to apologise but ready to fight battles in court. People of Maharashtra should be aware of their values who have no regret of insulting such a great son,” he added.
This is a veiled attack on Rahul Gandhi who has been sued by Vinayak Savarkar’s kin for remarks against him. In April last year, Satyaki, the grand nephew of Vinayak Savarkar, had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi for remarks against the Hindutva ideologue.
