Each year on December 4, India celebrates Indian Navy Day to commemorate the Navy’s victory over Karachi Port during Operation Trident in 1971. Many young individuals aspire to join the Indian Navy and safeguard the nation’s maritime borders. If you share this dream, you can become a naval officer right after completing Class 12.

Ranked seventh among the world’s 10 most powerful navies, the Indian Navy offers excellent career opportunities. Here’s how you can pursue a career in the Navy after schooling:

NDA/NA Exam

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination twice a year. After clearing the written exam, candidates undergo the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The age limit for the NDA exam is 16.5 to 19 years. To be eligible, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

10+2 BTech Cadet Entry Scheme

Another route to joining the Navy is the 10+2 BTech Cadet Entry Scheme, which selects candidates with high ranks in the JEE Main exam. Successful candidates undergo a four-year training programme at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala (Kerala).

Upon completion of the training programme, they are commissioned as officers and awarded a BTech degree. This scheme trains officers for the Education, Executive, and Technical branches of the Navy.

Eligibility requires a Class 12 qualification in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least 70% marks, along with a qualifying JEE Main rank. Candidates for the SSB interview are selected based on their performance in JEE Main.

Opportunity To Become Navy Agniveer

You can also join the Navy under the new central government scheme, Agniveer. The age limit for this entry is 17.5 to 21 years. Candidates must have scored at least 50% marks in Class 12 with Mathematics and Physics. Students appearing for the Class 12 exam are also eligible to apply.

Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET)

INET is another officer entry scheme, offering both permanent and short service commission opportunities. INET is conducted twice a year, and applications can be submitted online at www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. The exam is conducted online, and candidates who pass the written test are invited for the SSB interview.
