In a sharp rebuttal to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a “total ceasefire” between Iran and Israel, Tehran has firmly denied any such agreement, calling the claim baseless and politically motivated.
Just hours after Trump took to Truth Social declaring that both nations had agreed to halt hostilities within six hours, Iranian state-affiliated news agency Fars released a statement rejecting the report outright. Citing unnamed sources, the agency stated, “The ceasefire plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump is completely false and was put forward to divert attention from America’s recent humiliation following attacks on its regional bases.”
According to the report, Tehran has neither received nor responded to any formal or informal truce proposal. In fact, officials quoted by Fars issued a strong warning, saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will demonstrate the falsehood of this claim through practical and on-the-ground action in the coming hours.”
Adding to the strong pushback, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a pointed response aimed at Trump’s declaration. In a public statement, Khamenei remarked, “Those who know the Iranian people and their history know that the Iranian nation isn’t a nation that surrenders.”

Trump’s surprising post, published around 4 a.m. IST, stirred global attention. In it, he claimed that both Iran and Israel had agreed to a total ceasefire, marking what would have been a significant development in a region already gripped by tension and conflict.
However, Iran’s immediate rejection underscores the continued volatility and the deep mistrust surrounding diplomatic overtures—particularly when channeled through unofficial or unilateral announcements.
However Trump in his latest post in Truth Social stated that both side have agreed for truce, he said, “”CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED! Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.” This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD! (sic),” the post read.”
